Who will I work with?
You'll work with a mental health professional who has experience helping clients with concerns similar to yours.
Before your first appointment, Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, will learn about your goals, answer your questions, verify your insurance benefits, and thoughtfully match you with the therapist who best fits your needs based on their expertise, therapeutic approach, availability, and your preferences.
Whether you're seeking therapy for anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, relationship concerns, family challenges, burnout, grief, addiction and substance use concerns, or another concern, our goal is to ensure you begin therapy with someone who understands your unique situation and can provide personalized, evidence-based care.

Our pre-licensed therapists and graduate-level interns receive ongoing supervision from experienced licensed clinicians to ensure they provide high-quality, ethical, and effective care.
Every member of our team is carefully selected for their clinical expertise, professionalism, and ability to build genuine, trusting relationships with clients. Regardless of who you work with, you can expect personalized, evidence-based treatment in a warm, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment.
How do you match clients with therapists?
Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of a successful therapy experience.
When you contact Unify Counseling, Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, will ask about your concerns, treatment goals, insurance, scheduling preferences, and any therapist preferences you may have. Based on this information, she'll recommend the therapist whose experience, specialties, therapeutic approach, personality, and availability are the best fit for your needs.
Because every therapist has different areas of expertise, we carefully consider whether you're seeking support for concerns such as anxiety, trauma, ADHD, couples counseling, child or teen therapy, grief, eating disorders, addiction and substance use concerns, stress, burnout, life transitions, or another area before making a recommendation.
If you already know which therapist you'd like to see, we'll do our best to schedule you with them whenever possible. If another therapist may be a better fit, we'll explain why and help you make an informed decision.

What is your approach to therapy?
Our approach to therapy is personalized, collaborative, and evidence-based.
We believe every client deserves a treatment plan tailored to their unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Rather than relying on a single therapy method, our therapists integrate evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, EMDR, Somatic Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Nervous System Regulation Therapy while drawing from additional therapeutic techniques when appropriate to best support each client's needs.
Above all, we believe healing happens through a strong therapeutic relationship. Our therapists combine proven clinical techniques with genuine compassion to help clients feel understood, supported, and empowered.

Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is very important to us.
Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential and protected by state and federal privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). There are a few limited legal and ethical exceptions to confidentiality, such as situations involving concerns about immediate safety, suspected abuse or neglect, or when disclosure is required by law.
Your therapist will review confidentiality during your first appointment, explain these exceptions, and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive, and trusting environment where you feel comfortable sharing openly as you work toward your goals.

Getting Started
How do I know if it's time to start therapy?
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Many people seek therapy because they're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, emotionally exhausted, or simply looking for support during a difficult time.
If your thoughts, emotions, or behaviors are affecting your relationships, work, school, or overall quality of life, therapy can help. Reaching out is often the first step toward feeling better, and we're here to support you throughout the process.
How do I schedule my first appointment at Unify Counseling?
Getting started is simple. You can complete our Get Started form https://www.unifycounseling.com/get-started#top, email us at info@unifycounseling.com, or call our office at (847) 996-9994.
Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, will personally respond within one business day to answer your questions, learn more about your needs, verify your insurance benefits, and help match you with a therapist whose expertise, therapeutic approach, and availability are the best fit for you.
Whether you're seeking therapy for yourself, your child, or your family, we're here to make the process as easy, supportive, and comfortable as possible.
What can I expect during my first appointment?
Your first appointment is primarily focused on completing a comprehensive psychosocial assessment. This assessment helps your therapist understand your current concerns, symptoms, behaviors, personal history, relationships, strengths, and goals so they can develop an individualized treatment plan tailored to your needs.
You'll have the opportunity to discuss what's bringing you to therapy, how your symptoms are affecting your daily life, and ask any questions you may have. There is no pressure to tell your entire story during your first appointment—therapy is a process, and your therapist will work with you at a pace that feels safe, supportive, and comfortable.
By the end of your first appointment, you and your therapist will have a clearer understanding of your goals and the next steps in your care.
How does Unify Counseling help me find the right therapist?
Finding the right therapist is one of the most important parts of a successful therapy experience. That's why Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, takes the time to learn about your concerns, goals, and preferences before recommending a therapist.
When making a recommendation, Brigit considers your symptoms, treatment goals, preferred therapy style, age, scheduling needs, as well as each therapist's clinical expertise, therapeutic approach, and availability. Our goal is to connect you with a therapist who is both highly qualified to meet your needs and someone you feel comfortable working with.
If you're unsure which therapist is right for you, we're happy to guide you through the process and help you find the best fit.
Can I choose my therapist?
Yes. If you've reviewed our therapist profiles and have someone in mind, you're welcome to request that therapist when scheduling your appointment.
Our goal is to help you find the therapist who is the best fit for your needs. If we believe another therapist's expertise, experience, or therapeutic approach would better support your goals, we'll explain why and recommend someone we think is a better match. The final decision is always yours.
If you're not sure who to choose, Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, is happy to guide you through the process and provide a personalized recommendation based on your needs and preferences.
What if my therapist isn't the right fit?
The relationship between you and your therapist is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. It's completely normal to discover that a different therapist may be a better fit.
If you have concerns about your therapist, we encourage you to discuss them openly. Sometimes, talking through these concerns can strengthen the therapeutic relationship. If a change still feels appropriate, we'll help you connect with another therapist within our practice.
Because building trust takes time, we generally recommend attending at least three sessions with a new therapist before deciding whether they're the right fit, unless there are significant concerns. Our priority is helping you find someone you feel comfortable with so you can get the most out of therapy.
Do I need a referral to begin therapy?
Usually, no. Most clients do not need a referral to begin therapy at Unify Counseling.
However, some insurance plans require a referral or prior authorization for behavioral health services. We recommend checking with your insurance company before your first appointment to avoid unexpected claim denials. If you're using insurance, our team will verify your behavioral health benefits and let you know if we identify any requirements.
If you have questions about your coverage, we're happy to help you understand your benefits whenever possible.
Are you accepting new clients?
Yes. Unify Counseling welcomes new clients for both in-person and telehealth appointments.
Appointment availability varies based on each therapist's schedule and specialty, but Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, will work with you to find the earliest available appointment with a therapist who best meets your needs.
Do you offer same-week appointments?
Yes. Depending on therapist availability and your scheduling needs, same-week appointments are often available.
If you're looking to be seen as soon as possible, let Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, know when you contact us. She'll do her best to connect you with an available therapist who is a good fit for your needs.
Do you offer same-day appointments?
Yes, when available. Same-day appointments depend on therapist availability, your ability to complete the required intake paperwork, and the time needed to verify your insurance benefits, if applicable.
If you need an appointment as soon as possible, contact us early in the day. We'll do everything we can to accommodate your request while ensuring we have everything needed for a smooth first appointment.

Yes. Unify Counseling is in-network with many major commercial, Medicaid, and military insurance plans to help make mental health care more accessible.

If you don't see your insurance plan listed, please contact us. We'll be happy to verify your benefits and discuss your options before scheduling your first appointment.
Will you verify my insurance benefits before my first appointment?
Yes. Before your first appointment, Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, will verify your behavioral health benefits whenever possible. She'll review your coverage, estimated out-of-pocket costs, and answer any questions you have about your insurance benefits.
While we make every effort to verify your benefits accurately, insurance companies make the final determination of coverage and payment.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on your insurance coverage and the therapist you see. If you're using insurance, your out-of-pocket costs may include a copay, coinsurance, or deductible.
For clients paying out of pocket, individual therapy sessions typically range from $150 to $200, depending on the therapist. Couples therapy sessions are $250 per session.
We'll review your fees before your first appointment so you know exactly what to expect. Our goal is to make the financial aspect of therapy as transparent as possible.
Can I self-pay for therapy?
Yes. You do not need insurance to receive therapy at Unify Counseling.
We welcome self-pay clients and are happy to discuss our private-pay rates before your first appointment. If you're unsure whether using insurance or paying privately is the best option, our team can help you understand your choices.
Do you offer sliding scale fees?
Yes. A limited number of therapists at Unify Counseling offer reduced-fee appointments based on financial need and availability.
Sliding scale availability varies by therapist. If you're interested, let Brigit, our dedicated Intake Specialist, know when you contact us, and she'll help determine whether a sliding scale appointment may be available.
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay for therapy?
Yes. In most cases, Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) can be used to pay for therapy services.
If you're unsure whether your plan covers mental health treatment, we recommend checking with your HSA or FSA administrator. We're also happy to provide documentation if needed.
Can I use out-of-network insurance benefits?
Yes. If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible for partial reimbursement for therapy services.
Upon request, we can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company. Because every insurance plan is different, we recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your out-of-network benefits and reimbursement eligibility.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is an itemized receipt that includes the information your insurance company may require to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim.
If you're using out-of-network benefits, we can provide a superbill after your appointment. Reimbursement is determined by your insurance company and your individual insurance plan.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as HSA and FSA cards. Payment is typically collected at the time of your appointment.
If you have questions about billing or payment, our team is happy to help.
What if my insurance changes?
If your insurance changes, please let us know before your next appointment. We'll verify your new benefits and update your information to help minimize billing delays or unexpected out-of-pocket costs.
Keeping your insurance information current helps ensure your claims are processed as smoothly as possible.
Appointments & Scheduling
How long are therapy sessions?
Most individual, couples, and family therapy sessions last approximately 53–60 minutes.
The length and frequency of therapy are personalized based on your goals, symptoms, and your therapist's clinical recommendations.
How often should I attend therapy?
Many clients begin therapy with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish consistent progress.
As your goals are met, your therapist may recommend transitioning to biweekly or less frequent appointments based on your individual needs, progress, and treatment goals.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
The length of therapy varies for each person. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy focused on a specific concern, while others choose longer-term therapy for ongoing support, personal growth, or managing more complex or chronic mental health concerns.
Your therapist will regularly review your progress with you and adjust your treatment plan based on your goals, needs, and preferences.
What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
We understand that unexpected situations arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible.
We ask that clients provide at least 24 business hours' notice to avoid a late cancellation fee. Appointments canceled with less than 24 business hours' notice, as well as missed appointments (no-shows), are subject to a $100 late cancellation or no-show fee.
Please contact our office if you have any questions about our cancellation policy.
What happens if I arrive late for my appointment?
If you arrive late, your therapist will do their best to make the most of the remaining appointment time. To avoid delaying other scheduled clients, sessions typically end at the originally scheduled time.
If you know you'll be late, please contact our office as soon as possible.

Therapy Approaches
What therapy approaches does Unify Counseling use?
At Unify Counseling, we believe therapy should be tailored to each person's unique needs rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Our therapists draw from a variety of evidence-based treatment methods to create an individualized treatment plan based on your concerns, goals, strengths, and life experiences.
Depending on your needs, your therapist may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, Nervous System Regulation Therapy, and other evidence-based approaches.
Your therapist will explain their recommendations and work collaboratively with you throughout the therapeutic process.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most well-researched and effective forms of therapy for anxiety, depression, stress, ADHD, and many other mental health concerns.
CBT focuses on identifying unhelpful thoughts, emotions, and behaviors that contribute to distress. Together, you and your therapist will learn practical skills to develop healthier thinking patterns, improve emotional regulation, and make positive changes in daily life.
What is Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps people better manage intense emotions, improve relationships, and respond to life's challenges in healthier ways.
DBT teaches practical skills in mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills can help reduce emotional overwhelm, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and build resilience.
What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help people heal from traumatic or distressing experiences.
EMDR uses guided bilateral stimulation to help the brain process difficult memories so they become less emotionally overwhelming. Many people find that EMDR reduces the emotional impact of trauma while improving their ability to move forward with greater confidence and resilience.
What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic Therapy recognizes the powerful connection between the mind and body. Stress and trauma often affect the nervous system just as much as they affect our thoughts and emotions.
Somatic Therapy helps you become more aware of physical sensations, release stress stored in the body, regulate your nervous system, and develop healthier responses to emotional challenges.
What is Trauma-Informed Therapy?
Trauma-Informed Therapy is an approach that recognizes the lasting effects trauma can have on emotional, physical, and psychological well-being.
Rather than asking, "What's wrong with you?" trauma-informed care asks, "What happened to you?" Therapy emphasizes safety, trust, collaboration, and empowerment while helping clients heal at a pace that feels supportive and appropriate for their individual needs.
What is Nervous System Regulation Therapy?
Nervous System Regulation Therapy helps you better understand how your nervous system responds to stress, anxiety, and trauma.
Your therapist will teach practical strategies to help regulate your emotional and physical responses, reduce feelings of overwhelm, increase resilience, and improve your ability to respond to life's challenges with greater calm and flexibility.

Recovery looks different for everyone. Our therapists will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
Privacy & Confidentiality
Is therapy private and confidential?
Yes. Protecting your privacy is one of our highest priorities. What you share in therapy is confidential and protected by state and federal privacy laws, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
There are a few legally required exceptions to confidentiality, including situations involving an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, older adult, or dependent adult, court orders or other legal requirements, or when disclosure is otherwise required by law.
Your therapist will review confidentiality, its limits, and answer any questions you may have during your first appointment.
Is online therapy secure?

Yes. If you are matched with an intern therapist, we will let you know before your first appointment.
We'll explain the intern's role, the supervision they receive, and answer any questions you may have so you can make an informed decision about your care.
Is therapy with an intern right for me?
Yes. Many clients have positive experiences working with therapy interns.
Our interns are carefully selected, receive ongoing supervision from experienced licensed clinicians, and are trained in evidence-based treatment approaches. Throughout your care, they work closely with their supervisors to help ensure you receive high-quality, ethical, and compassionate treatment.
For many individuals, working with an intern offers a collaborative, supportive, and effective therapy experience.
